The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured the dynamic wicketkeeper-batter with an unprecedented ₹27 crore bid, surpassing the previous record set moments earlier when Punjab Kings (PBKS) acquired Shreyas Iyer for ₹26.75 crore.
While Pant’s record-smashing deal dominated headlines, the auction also witnessed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) reclaiming all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer for ₹23.75 crore. Released by the team earlier, KKR fiercely outbid Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to bring back the batting all-rounder, who remains a vital part of their squad.
Pant’s meteoric rise to the IPL pinnacle comes less than two years after a life-threatening car accident in 2022.
