Assaulted Delivery Agent Files FIR Against Guwahati Cop

GUWAHATI: Gyandeep Hazarika, the delivery agent who was assaulted by the former OC of Panbazar Police Station, Bhargav Borbora filed a FIR against the police personnel at the Panbazar Police Station on November 16.

In the complaint letter Gyandeep wrote that he was on his way to deliver a parcel in Fancy Bazar and was passing through Jail Road when Bhargav without any reason wrongfully restrain and assaulted him as well as hurled abusive language.

In the complaint letter, Gyandeep also mentioned that the police official threatened to kill him stating, "Mari pelam tuk" and punched him in the face.

The entire incident was caught in camera by a concerned citizen.

Gyandeep in the letter requested the authorities to investigate the case and register the FIR with proper sections of law and provide justice.

Earlier on November 16, Palash Ranjan Baruah, a resident of Beltola, along with Himangshu Gogoi from Sivasagar also filed a complaint against Borbora for assaulting Gyandeep.

The video of the assault, posted by GPlus, went viral and prompted swift action by Assam DGP GP Singh, who announced Borbora's suspension via a tweet. "The behavior of Insp Bhargav Borbora, OC Panbazar, is unacceptable. He is being placed under suspension with immediate effect, and a Departmental Enquiry has been ordered. CP Guwahati has been advised to post another officer immediately," Singh stated.

Police Commissioner Diganta Barah confirmed that Borbora had been "immediately closed to Ordinary Reserve pending formal enquiry."

Following the incident, the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, replaced Borbora with Manjit Terang as the Officer-in-Charge of Panbazar Police Station.
