Assam’s Tinsukia Commerce College Granted Autonomous Status By UGC

GUWAHATI: Assam’s Tinsukia Commerce College has been conferred autonomous status by the University Grants Commission (UGC), marking a milestone in the institution’s academic journey. The development was confirmed by Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Wednesday, April 30, through a post on social media platform X.

“Congratulations to Tinsukia Commerce College on being conferred Autonomous status by the UGC,” Pegu posted. “This milestone reflects academic excellence and dedication. Wishing the institution continued growth, innovation, and success.”

With the grant of autonomous status, the college will now have the authority to design its own curriculum, conduct examinations, and manage academic affairs independently, while still being affiliated with its parent university. The recognition is generally based on consistent academic performance, governance, and contributions to higher education.

Meanwhile, Pragjyotish College in Guwahati was awarded an ‘A’ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) earlier this year, securing a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.01 on a seven-point scale. The result was confirmed through official communication addressed to the college principal.

Minister Pegu had also acknowledged this achievement on X.
