Assam’s Jengrai And Bebejia Demow Bangthai Gram Panchayats Receive National Panchayat Awards

 

GUWAHATI: The Jengrai and Bebejia Demow Bangthai gram panchayats from Assam have been awarded with National Panchayat Awards on Wednesday, December 11. Jengrai gram panchayat, located in Majuli district, was selected for the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar and awarded ₹1 crore in the category of child-friendly panchayat.

The panchayat has made substantial efforts to promote the welfare and development of children, including comprehensive nutritional support and early education through Anganwadi centres. Jengrai has successfully tackled issues such as child labour, abuse, and crimes against children, demonstrating the community’s commitment to safeguarding children’s rights. 

With 21 primary schools and 7 well-maintained playgrounds, the panchayat prioritizes access to quality education and physical development. It has also constructed two stadiums to encourage sports and recreational activities.

Similarly, Bebejia Demow Bangthai gram panchayat, located in Nagaon district, received the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar and a ₹1.25 crore award for being the best gram panchayat.
