Assamese Photographer Bags International Award for Best Photograph

Guwahati based photojournalist Anupam Nath has bagged the 1st place in an international award of National Press Photographers Association (NPPA). He was conferred the award for his contribution in the category of 'Environment Single.'

The prestigious award was initiated in the year 1946 to honour the photojournalists and to select the best of the best from various categories.

The other categories of the award include - Sports, International News, General News, Domestic News, Contemporary Issues, Feature, Portrait, Pictorial etc.

Speaking to G Plus, Anupam Nath said, "My photo was sent by Associated Press for the competition. It's a very prestigious award in the world, and is equivalent to World Press Photo Award. I am elated to have bagged the 1st position among so many renowned photojournalists."

The second award in the 'Environment Single' category was bagged by Marcus Yam of Los Angeles Times. 

The photograph was earlier listed in the TIME Top 100 photographs of the year.

The photo was captured by Nath at Panbari Village, near Chandrapur, which shows villagers offering flowers at the tusk of a dead elephant.
