Assam To Plant 10 Crore Saplings In 3 Years To Boost Tree Economy

 

GUWAHATI: In a strategic move aimed at both environmental preservation and economic advancement, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has announced an ambitious goal of planting 10 crore saplings within the next three years. This initiative is set to pave the way for a robust tree economy that promises to drive financial growth while contributing to ecological sustainability.

During his speech, the Chief Minister focused on some specific tree varieties that hold immense economic potential which include Sal, teaks, sandalwoods, and agarwood, all identified as key contributors to the state's burgeoning tree-based economy.

The state government has declared its intention to plant a staggering 1 crore saplings in a single day which is slated for September 17, 2023. To engage citizens in this monumental effort, an innovative approach has been adopted. The government has extended an open invitation for citizens to register their names and addresses on the forest department portal. Upon registration, participants will be provided with a sapling to plant, marking their active participation in the state's ecological revival and commitment to a greener future.
