Assam: Three Suspected Rhino Poachers Arrested in Dalgaon; Weapons Recovered

 

GUWAHATI: Assam Police apprehended three individuals suspected of rhino poaching on Saturday, October 26. The accused have been identified as Md. Abdul Ali (52), Md. Ajgar Ali (41), and Md. Ali Hussain (21). During an interrogation, Abdul Ali confessed to the alleged plan, leading authorities to a hidden stash of firearms submerged in a pond on his property.

The recovered items include one 303 rifle, an upper body barrel of a 303 rifle, and an iron silencer pipe. Following the discovery, police have registered a case under Dalgaon Police station.

The suspects, allegedly with a group of Naga poachers, had reportedly planned to target rhinos in the nearby Orang National Park during the upcoming Diwali celebrations. 

Talking to GPlus, an official from Dalgaon police station confirmed the incident, saying, “The Naga poachers had supplied them with two rifles and planned to target rhinos in the nearby Orang National Park during the upcoming Diwali celebrations.”

However, swift action by Dalgaon Police disrupted the plan before any harm could be inflicted on the wildlife.
