Assam: Tea Seller's Engineer Son Cracks NEET To Secure AIIMS Seat

 

GUWAHATI: A 24-year-old youth from Assam, Rahul Das, who was helping his mother in running a tea shop has cleared the reputed NEET exam to secure a seat at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. Rahul cleared the NEET exam in his first attempt. 

Rahul Das, who is from the Bajali district in Assam was previously working in an MNC as an engineer, and later decided to chase his dream of becoming a doctor.

Das was a bright student during his school days. But after 12th, due to lack of funds, Rahul studied for a diploma in plastic engineering from the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET).

"I have seen my mother toil hard for us. We couldn't afford a helper at the shop. Since school, I made it a point to help her in some way or the other. I made tea and sold it, too. And as and when it was possible, I would sit down to study at the shop," Rahul, speaking to a national news agency said.

“I owe it to my mother. I can never repay her for all the sacrifices she has made to raise me and my brother with the earnings from selling tea," he added.

Taking note of Rahul's achievement, Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the State will bear all the education expenses of Rahul Das.
