GUWAHATI: Assam Sports Journalists Association on Saturday proudly commemorates a significant milestone as it reached the centenary mark, marking its hundred years since its inception in 1923.
The closing ceremony of the centenary celebration was celebrated in Guwahati on Saturday.
The highlight of the grand event was an address by Gianni Merlo, the esteemed President of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS).
The event was attended by Dilip Tirkey, the President of the Indian Hockey Association and a former hockey player. Joining him were Hima Das, Swadhin Deka Raja, Tousen Bora, and Nayan Moni Saikia, all distinguished international players.
This event also provided a platform for the release of the book 'Shatadhara' which is a 540 pages anthology, collectively written by the sports journalist fraternity, encompassing individuals working within and outside of Assam.
A photo book titled ‘Lensography@100’ has also been released, showcasing a collection of photographs capturing the year-long celebrations of the centenary milestone.
As part of the yearlong celebrations, the ASJA (Assam Sports Journalists Association) organized a series of sports seminars and workshops in Guwahati, Sivasagar, Mirza, Nagaon, Silchar, and a few other places across Assam.
A sports quiz was also organised at Jorhat, along with a sports journalism contest for Mass Communication students in Guwahati.
