The minister announced the institution of the inquiry on X, July 7.

The list includes 1,190 college teachers, who recorded their attendance on the portal. However, since college teachers do not fall under the purview of the School Education Department, the inquiry will exclude them.

The Department of School Education will now focus its investigation on the remaining 3,717 school teachers who have recorded ‘zero attendance’.
The former notice issued by the School Education Department stated on July 7, "...it is to be informed that all the college teachers included in the list of absentee teachers in the Shiksha Setu portal shall be exempted from verification and pay held up..."

Ranoj Pegu took to X to put out, "I had ordered an enquiry into the ‘Zero Attendance’ record of 4907 teachers in the Shiksha Setu portal. It is now revealed that the list of 4907 teachers included the 1190 College teachers who recorded themselves in the Shiksha Setu as they teach in Colleges that run a higher secondary section. College teachers do not fall under the purview of the School Education department, so the enquiry will not cover them. The @SchoolEdnAssam will now inquire about the ‘Zero Attendance’ of 3717 school teachers only, not College Teachers."
