Assam MLA Urges Modi To Build Temples In Place Of Taj Mahal And Qutub Minar

GUWAHATI: An Assam BJP legislator from Mariani urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demolish the Mughal-era Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar and replace them with temples on Tuesday.

Rupjyoti Kurmi, Mariani BJP MLA, told the media, "I urge PM Modi to demolish the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar and build the world's most beautiful temple."

Furthermore, the MLA stated that the temple's architecture should be such that no other institution or establishment can come close to it.

The MLA also stated that he is willing to donate his entire year's salary to the temple construction.

The Taj Mahal is a massive white marble mausoleum built in Agra between 1631 and 1648 by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favourite wife. The Taj Mahal is India's crown jewel of Muslim art and one of the world's most admired masterpieces.

The red sandstone tower of Qutub Minar is 72.5 m high, tapering from 2.75 m in diameter at its peak to 14.32 m at its base, and has alternating angular and rounded flutings. It was built in the early 13th century a few kilometres south of Delhi.

The surrounding archaeological area contains funerary structures, including the magnificent Alai-Darwaza Gate, a masterpiece of Indo-Muslim art (built in 1311), and two mosques, including the Quwwatu'l-Islam, the oldest in northern India, constructed from materials reused from some 20 Brahman temples.

This comes after the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), revised its textbooks and syllabus, which will affect schools across the country.

'Themes of Indian History-Part 2', the 12th class history book, will no longer include chapters on the Mughal empire.

The chapters titled 'Kings and Chronicles; Mughal Courts (C. 16th and 17th centuries)' have been removed from the book. This is not the only textbook that has been revised. Some poems and paragraphs from Hindi textbooks have also been revised by NCERT.

NCERT's changes will be implemented beginning with the current academic year, 2023-2024. In addition to the History and Hindi textbooks, the Civics book for the 12th grade has been revised.
