GUWAHATI: A youth has reportedly died in a parasailing mishap near Guijan in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district on Wednesday, January 26.

Reports say the incident happened at a makeshift tourism site named Skyland Resort on the banks of the Dibru River. The youth, identified as Pankaj Gogoi, was a resident of Naoboicha in the Lakhimpur district.

Initial reports suggest the youth slipped out of his harness while parasailing at the resort near Dibru Saikhowa National Park and was grievously injured.

According to a Facebook post by one Chow Suren Rajkonwar, a friend of the deceased, Gogoi fell from a height of 350-400 feet while parasailing. He was taken to a private nursing home in Dibrugarh for further treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident has led to questions if the resort in question was licensed to operate parasailing activities. Further details about the incident are awaited.
