GUWAHATI: The Assam General Administration Department has issued an office memorandum outlining the new provisions for the reimbursement of helper allowance to the Chief Minister, Ministers, and eligible senior officers. The move aims to streamline administrative support for these officials while giving them the flexibility to engage suitable personnel in lieu of traditional bungalow peons.

The General Administration Department and other relevant departments will cease the appointment or engagement of bungalow peons in the future. The Chief Minister, Ministers, and eligible senior officers can independently engage suitable personnel.

The Chief Minister can engage four personnel, Ministers can engage two personnel and so can Officers in the rank of Principal Secretary and above up to the rank of Chief Secretary while Officers in the rank of Joint Secretary and above up to the rank of Commissioner and Secretary can engage one personnel.

The payment for each person engaged in lieu of a bungalow peon will be made by the respective Chief Minister, Minister, or concerned officer. The payment rate is set at ₹16,400 per month, starting from September 1.

This lump sum payment will be directly reimbursed to the concerned officials' bank accounts by the State Government under the category of "Helper Allowance." The rate will be subject to revision in consultation with the Finance Department.
