Assam Health Minister Confirms Suspected COVID-19 Case to be Negative

GUWAHATI: Assam health and family welfare minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, confirmed on March 22 Sunday morning that the 4-year-old child who was suspected of COVID-19 and was tested in Jorhat Medical College and RMRC, Dibrugarh has been found negative. 

He further added that there is no confirmed positive case of coronavirus in Assam till now. 

The news of the first coronavirus positive case in Assam was doing the rounds on March 21 when several reports suggested that the 4-year-old had tested positive for the virus. 

The Jorhat Deputy Commissioner had informed on March 21 that the test run at JMCH laboratory had given the results as positive, and the sample was sent to Regional Medical Research Center at Lahowal in Dibrugarh for recheck and that the confirmed results will be available on March 22.  

The girl and her family had come from Bihar on March 19 and they were admitted to JMCH the next day as the girl exhibited symptoms.

Sarma shared the test result of the child on Sunday morning on twitter and tweeted: 
“The 4 year old child who was suspected of #covid19 and tested in Jorhat Medical College and RMRC, Dibrugarh has been found NEGATIVE. There is no Covid19 positive case in Assam so far.”
