GUWAHATI: The Health and Finance Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the people of Assam to not treat lockdown as a time for vacation.

Sarma, while addressing the media on Monday, March 23, announced for a lockdown to take place in Assam from 6PM of March 24 to midnight of March 31.

"The Janata Curfew on March 22 was majorly a success here in Assam. However, at 5PM people started to come out on the streets and it started to seem like a celebration. This shouldn't be the case in the days to come. I urge you to stay at home for your own safety," emphasised Sarma.

He added that if people are seen roaming around the streets unnecessarily, the police will take action against them under section 270 of the Indian Penal Code.
