GUWAHATI: In a horrifying incident, a father allegedly raped his own 15-year-old daughter from Bhogpur village in Baksa district of Assam. The incident took place in the month of June and an FIR was lodged a month later following the incident.
No arrests have been made as the accused Mukut Ali, father of the victim, has been on the run since the time he had committed the crime, police said.
Another FIR was lodged in the month of July but no headway was made in the case as the accused could not be traced till date.
The victim and her sister were allegedly tortured by their relatives and were thrown out of their house as they dared to file an FIR against their father. Since then, the victim and her sister have been living with a relative for the past few months. Presently, both of them are at the CWC Shelter home, Mushalpur in Baksa district of Assam. The victim’s mother had also eloped with another man, a few years ago.
“Regarding the incident, two FIRs have been lodged. We have been trying to search the accused since the first FIR was filed in July. But the accused has been on the run since then. We even went to his home many a time searching for the accused but his house is locked for the last 2-3 months,” Sub-Inspector (SI) of Goreshwar Police Station Brindabon Das told G Plus.
“Once we received inputs that he was at Changsari Village in Baksa, we went searching for him, but he could not be traced. We have been searching for him rigorously for the past few months but it has been impossible to find him. He is still absconding”, Das added.
Upon asked that according to the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act of 2012, the matter should have been informed to the Child Welfare Committee within 24 hours, the SI said, “Yes, we should have informed it the CWC within 24 hours, but I didn’t have any idea regarding it, and also since we were busy with other cases, we could not inform the CWC. Although, a search operation is on to nab the culprit and we are confident of finding him soon”, the Sub- Inspector added.
Speaking to G Plus Executive Director of NGO working on human trafficking and child rights, Prerna Changkakati said, “Upon receiving information regarding the rape incident and the victim from the 24th Battalion SSB Rangia, we have produced the girl child before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on November 18 in Baksa district, to record her statements and also for her care and protection,”
“Presently the victim and her sister have been kept at the CWC Shelter home in Mushalpur, Baksa. We have also informed the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Baksa district regarding the incident on Nov 18, 2021, and have requested the DC to take immediate cognizance of this matter and take necessary directions to the concerned officials for speedy action in arresting the accused and bringing justice to the minor rape victim”, Changkakati added.
