Assam: Doctors Play Soothing Music for Tarun Gogoi's Recovery

GUWAHATI: As former Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi battles for his life in the ICU of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), his favourite musical pieces and the speeches of Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi are being played to the octogenarian Congress leader to soothe his mind and help in recovery.


Gogoi’s son and MP, Gaurav Gogoi, told reporters that his father’s condition remains very critical and he has been on mechanical ventilation for the last two days.

He said that popular singer-music composer, Zubeen Garg, who had visited the ailing politician late on November 21 night, had suggested playing soothing music to help in recovery.


“As per his suggestion and with the consent of the doctors, we have arranged for playing his favourite Bhupen Hazarika songs, borgeets and naam (devotional Assamese songs) through headphones today,” Gaurav said.


He added that inspirational speeches of former prime ministers Late Indira Gandhi and Late Rajiv Gandhi, of whom Gogoi is an ardent follower, are also being played through headphones.


He further said the former prime minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh had called him and enquired about Gogoi’s health.
