Assam DGP Orders Probe Into Alleged Police Misconduct In Guwahati

 

GUWAHATI: Assam's Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh has initiated an enquiry following an alleged incident involving misconduct by police officials in Guwahati. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday night in the Basistha area.

The episode unfolded when three police officials, reportedly in an intoxicated state, were bathing in the Basistha River. Media reports indicate that the officers, after their bath, encountered a young man in the vicinity and subsequently assaulted him without provocation. The assault was severe, reportedly leaving the youth with fractures in both legs.

Singh responded firmly to the allegations, emphasising that such behaviour is unacceptable under any circumstances. "An enquiry has been ordered. If the allegations are true, firm lawful & departmental action will be taken. Such misdemeanour, if true, is unacceptable, whatsoever may be the provocation & reason," Singh stated.

In light of the incident, the Assam Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the facts and identify the officers involved. Further details are awaited.
