Assam: Cachar College Principal Suspended Amid Allegations Of Malpractices

 

GUWAHATI: Siddhartha Sankar Nath, the Principal of Cachar College in Silchar, has been suspended on allegations of malpractices during one of the Higher Secondary Examinations held on February 19, 2024.

In light of pending departmental proceedings against Siddhartha Sankar Nath, he has been placed under suspension, following the provisions of section 6 sub-section 1(a) of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) rules, 1964, as of an official notice on February 21.

The suspension is a precautionary measure pending the completion of the departmental proceedings initiated against Siddhartha Sankar Nath. The allegations of malpractices during the Higher Secondary Examination have prompted disciplinary action, aiming to ensure a fair and thorough investigation.

In the suspension order it is stated that during the period of suspension, Siddhartha Sankar Nath is entitled to receive a subsistence allowance under FR 53 (1) (i) (a) for the initial three months. However, he is bound by the condition not to leave the headquarters without the prior approval of the competent authority. 

Earlier on February 15, another case of paper leak was reported from Cachar, which the Education Minister has said to be fake. 

Taking to X, on February 16, Minister Pegu posted, “The reports of HSLC examination question paper leak in Cachar District are fake. Authorities are currently probing the origins of this false news and will enforce legal measures accordingly.”
