GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has called for a statewide Assam bandh over the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 being cleared by the Cabinet. The students’ union has pulled out all stops to ensure that the bandh is enforced across the state.

To ensure the same, several AASU members were seen threatening commuters in the city today. Several incidents of public violence and vandalism were also reported. In a video, first reported by G Plus, it was seen that AASU vandals were damaging private and public vehicles.

After the incidents, G Plus went to the Pan Bazar Police Commissionerate to find out if any action was taken against the vandals. While no senior officers were available at the Commissionerate then, it was reported that they were on field ensuring safety of citizens.

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Deepak Kumar speaking to G Plus said, “We have arrested around 8-10 hooligans who were throwing stones at vehicles. Few instances of vandalism have happened in the city but our people have reached the spot immediately. Additional police force has been deployed, police personnel are on field and patrolling vehicles and escorts are also available.”

“The good thing is that, people are on the road, vehicles are plying and regular activities have not come to a stand-still,” he added.
