The deceased was identified through a PAN card recovered from the vehicle. The case came to light after a family member of the victim alerted the police, leading to an investigation.
According to the police, Khairul Islam, along with his brother-in-law Injamul and another accomplice, Jehar Ali, took Saleha Begum away, strangled her and kept her in the vehicle. Following the murder, they went into hiding at a hotel in Lokhra, where they were later tracked down and arrested.
According to the victim’s brother, this was Khairul’s second marriage, and he had been involved in another relationship in Nagaon, which Saleha strongly opposed. It has also been alleged that Khairul pressured Saleha to transfer ownership of a plot of land in Guwahati and a car to his name.
Speaking on the matter, a police official from Fatashil Ambari police station said to GPlus, “The incident arose from a domestic dispute. Along with his brother-in-law Injamul and an accomplice, Jehar Ali, Khairul Islam took the victim away and later killed her. Based on our investigation, we traced their whereabouts and arrested all three. They are now in custody.”
