GUWAHATI: The action taken against the accused officers in the much-hyped cash-for-job scam in the APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) may turn into yet another fiasco due to a flaw in their dismissal process.

Based on a case (2/2017) with the Dibrugarh police, 63 gazetted officers were arrested, sent to jail, suspended and then dismissed from services. These sacked officers may get their jobs back since the Assam Government did not maintain a proper procedure in dismissing them. The flaw gives the officers an edge in the Court which will decide their fate in the next few weeks.

The suspended officials have filed a PIL at the Gauhati High Court requesting them to be allowed to resume office and a GHC bench headed by Justice N Koteshwar Singh has agreed to hear the plea on June 18.

The Sarbananda Sonowal led Assam government is now scratching their head as all the 41 ACS officers, who already got bail and out of jail, are now about to get stay order in the dismissal order.

According to reports, the government has completed all procedures to appoint a senior advocate of the Supreme Court Maninder Singh to fight the legal battle on behalf of the government.
