GUWAHATI: With the Durga Puja fast approaching, several puja committees are busy in construction of pandals. Keeping this in view, the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has issued certain guidelines to Durga Puja committees in order to maintain safety at pandals.

These include that the MCB or the main switch of adequate capacity to be provided at supply intake point should be at a height not exceeding 1.5m for easy operation in case of emergencies.

It has further asked the organisers to ensure that all electric power supply circuits are adequately protected by using appropriate Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB) or Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB) with overload and short circuit protections with 30 mA sensitivity in addition to other isolating and protecting devices. Additionally, all appliances and equipment of temporary installation shall be properly earthed.

APDCL has asked the authorities to ensure that competent and designated personnel should be engaged round the clock, equipped with safety devices to ensure proper operation of the electrical system.

The puja committees have also been told not to erect any puja pandal, gate or structure near or below the overhead power line. Additionally, no contractor without license from the competent authority should be engaged in electrical installations.
