Alleged Drunk Ambulance Driver Kills Woman In Assam’s Goalpara

GUWAHATI: A road accident on Monday night, January 27, claimed the life of a woman who was struck by an ambulance near the Durga Mandir in Assam’s Goalpara district.

The victim, identified as Uma Koirala Saha (40), was crossing a road in the Goalpara town when the ambulance driver, identified as Soriful Islam (24), lost control of the ambulance and hit her. Saha succumbed to her injuries on the spot.

It is alleged that the driver was also under the influence of alcohol, which led to him losing his grip on the vehicle. Witnesses stated that the vehicle was seen recklessly navigating the road from a long distance, and they immediately notified the police after the accident occurred.

Speaking to GPlus, a senior official from the Goalpara Police Station said, “Yes, as soon as the incident happened, we arrested the driver and seized the vehicle immediately last night. He was under the influence of alchohol when we detained him.”

Local authorities have assured a thorough investigation into the matter.
