To encourage farmers, exporters, Airlines and concerned stakeholders in the business of Air Cargo development, a business meet was organized at Airports Authority of India’s Regional Headquarters, NER Guwahati today.
The major issues discussed in the meeting focused on addressing the problems faced by farmers and exporters for shipping their products from North Eastern India to rest of the world. From the course of packaging, transporting and to the customs clearances involved in the entire process of air cargo export, the entire methodology was discussed in the meet. And to address their concerns, officials of State Government from Ministry of commerce & Industry, AAICLAS, APEDA, Customs officers, Airline representatives, Plant quarantine officials and experts in the related fields were present for one to one interaction.
Addressing the stakeholders meet, Shri D.K Kamra, Regional Executive Director, AAI stressed on the need for speedy clearances of problems faced by the farmers in air cargo export in NER. He said, ‘The need is to increase the income of farmers and AAI is committed to help them in any way we can. ‘
Shri Tariq Butt, Chief Commercial officer of AAI Cargo Logistics & Allied Services Company Ltd (AAICLAS) a subsidiary of AAI informed that several airlines are interested in operation air cargo services from NER and they are continuously striving to provide competitive rates at par with other metro cities in the country. With possible and existing routes connecting Guwahati to Paro (Bhutan), Singapore, London, Dubai, Hong-Kong; the airlines are coming up with lowered cargo rates in the region, he added.
