Actor Paresh Rawal appointed as Chairman of National School of Drama

President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on September 10, appointed veteran actor Paresh Rawal as the new chairman of the National School of Drama (NSD).

"Heartiest congratulations to the renowned Indian film actor and National Award winner @SirPareshRawal for his appointment as the chairman of @nsd_india. Under his able leadership, NSD will certainly reach to the new heights,” tweeted Union Ministry of Culture. 

The National School of Drama’s Twitter handle also posted, “We are glad to inform Hon’ble President of India @rashtrapatibhvn has appointed renowned actor & Padma Shri @sirpareshrawal as chairman of @nsd_india. NSD family welcome the legend to shower his guidance to NSD for achieving new heights.”

Paresh Rawal told news agency PTI that his role as chairperson of the National School of Drama will be “challenging but fun.” 

Before Paresh Rawal, the post was held by acclaimed Rajasthani poet and theatre personality Arjun Deo Charan.

Paresh Rawal has been in the film industry for more than three decades and has won numerous awards, including the prestigious National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1994. In 2014, he was conferred with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India, for his contribution to the entertainment industry. In addition to films, Paresh Rawal has also been active in theatre.
