GUWAHATI: The Centre has given the nod for a 4% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners, effective from January 1, 2024. This move represents an additional instalment over the existing rate of 46% of the Basic Pay/Pension, aimed at offsetting the impact of rising prices.

The combined impact on the exchequer, including both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief, is estimated to be ₹12,868.72 crore annually. This decision will directly benefit approximately 49.18 lakh Central Government employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners across the country.

The decision to hike the Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief is in line with the accepted formula, which is based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
