30 Lakh Counterfeit Currency Seized In Guwahati, Five Arrested

 

GUWAHATI: Acting on credible information regarding the circulation and distribution of counterfeit Indian currency notes with a cumulative value of ₹30 lakh, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam launched an operation in Guwahati on the evening of October 13. The STF executed a meticulously planned raid at a rented residence, situated in Dakhingaon, Saukuchi Road.

This operation culminated in the apprehension of five individuals, namely Nizam Ali (50 years old), hailing from Islampur, North Lakhimpur, Hafizur Rahman (36 years old), a resident of Islampur, North Lakhimpur, Abdul Rajak (46 years old), residing in Ahmedpur, Lakhimpur, Munindra Hazarika (44 years old), hailing from Narayanpur, Lakhimpur, Atikur Rahman (38 years old), residing in Hatigaon, Sijubari, Guwahati.

The search operations conducted by the STF yielded 26 counterfeit bundles of ₹500 denomination (FICN), 6 mobile phones, 6 black-coloured papers of ₹500 note size, designed for conversion into ₹500 FICN when treated with a specific chemical, one bottle containing a liquid chemical used for developing the counterfeit notes, one bottle containing a suspected liquid chemical, one bundle of black papers matching the size of the notes, utilised for counterfeiting, one brown-coloured tape and one white-coloured plastic marketing bag, cash amounting to ₹7,700 and one four-wheeler.

The apprehended individuals and all recovered and seized items have been transferred to the Hatigaon Police Station. Further details awaited.
