Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday presented the 3rd Prag Prerona Awards to 11 distinguished women achievers from across Assam for their contributions in the fields of politics, literature, culture, and social life.
The awardees are - MP Bijoya Chakravarty, Dr Ajoya Mahanta, actress Runu Devi, senior journalist Sabita Goswami, writer Ranjita Biswas, singer Dhanada Pathak, social worker Sumitra Hazarika, filmmaker Dr Santwana Bordoloi, former AIR news reader Lili Das Malik, environmentalist Purnima Devi Barman and Arjuna awardee Monalisa Baruah Mehta.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the role played by the women in taking the society ahead is always unparalleled. He emphasised on the importance of education and empowering women and girl child in our society.
Sonowal further ensured that the Assam Government under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will work to build a society where the women are secure, safe and empowered and are given equal rights in the society.
Noted singer Usha Uthup was also present at the event as distinguished guest.
