CCTV footage and initial investigations suggest the building collapsed around 2:39 am while most occupants were asleep. Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Service (DFS), and Delhi Police rushed to the site shortly after receiving an alert at approximately 2:50 am.
The 20-year-old structure reportedly housed several families living on rent. Multiple residents were trapped under the debris before rescue operations concluded.
Reacting to the tragedy, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed his condolences on social media, "My heart is deeply pained by the tragic incident of a building collapse in Mustafabad. Orders have been issued for an investigation into the incident, and strict action will be taken against those responsible. Relief and rescue operations are being continuously carried out by DDMA, NDRF, DFS, and other agencies. Arrangements have been made for the proper treatment of all the injured. I express my deepest condolences to those who lost their lives in this unfortunate accident. May God grant peace to the departed souls and provide strength to the grieving families to bear this irreparable loss."
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and to verify whether there were any lapses in building maintenance or violations of construction regulations.
